New Year's Eve, Kamala Beach, Phuket, Thailand - loveinasuitcase.com

You may already know that we went to Phuket, Thailand over the New Year. I told you all about in this post. Obviously, that means that we spent New Year’s Eve there, and it turns out that Phuket was the perfect place to welcome 2014.

So what did we do in Phuket for New Year’s Eve? We opted to stay at our resort instead of battling with transportation and crazy party animals. They were having a big gala dinner with entertainment, a huge buffet and complimentary champagne anyway.

Just before midnight, we walked down to the beach to ring in the New Year. The beach was beautiful and packed with people. Some were sending of khom fai – Thai paper lanterns. Others opted for some more serious sparks with fireworks. Everyone seemed to be lighting up the sky.

When the clock struck 12, the sky went crazy. I’ve never seen so many fireworks all at once. They were exploding in every direction. The pictures really don’t do it justice.

Bars and restaurants up and down the beach stayed open late into the night to continue the celebration. But, Marc and I went to bed in hopes of getting a great spot on the beach in the morning because – let’s be honest – we’re old people now. We could still hear the fireworks as we were going to sleep.
