For a few months now, I’ve been eyeing up a bottle of salted caramel vodka. I was so intrigued by the idea of it, and I began brainstorming cocktail ideas. I was thinking caramel apple martinis and something in the gingersnap-snickerdoodle flavor realm. So when New Year’s Eve came around, I decided to actually buy a bottle. Cocktails were going to be made.
I was imagining a salted caramel version of a white Russian, but once I got home I realized that would require actual Kahlua, which I didn’t have, instead of the Bailey’s that I did have. I poured them over ice and topped them with a not-so-healthy helping of whipped cream and salted caramel sauce.
The result was a creamy, slightly salty cocktail reminiscent of a milkshake. A salted caramel boozy “milkshake” on ice. The whipped cream and salted caramel sauce alone was enough to eat with a spoon, but the drink itself was dreamy. See for yourself. And, if you really want to show off, try rimming the glass with a little salt to enhance the flavor of the vodka.
