This spicy penne arrabbiata recipe is delicious and super easy to make! It’s perfect for a quick and simple Italian dinner, and it’s completely vegan.



  • 1 pound penne pasta
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 2 large garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
  • 1 red bell pepper, chopped
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 2 15-ounce cans crushed tomatoes (or 1 28-ounce can)
  • 1 teaspoon dried parsley
  • 2 teaspoons dried basil
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt


  1. Cook pasta according to package directions.
  2. In a large skillet *affiliate link, heat olive oil to medium-high.
  3. Saute bell pepper, onion, garlic and crushed red pepper for 10 minutes or until peppers are soft.
  4. Add the tomatoes, basil, parsley and salt.
  5. Reduce heat to medium and simmer sauce for about 10 minutes (or until pasta is cooked).
  6. Toss pasta with sauce and serve immediately.
