If you’re craving an Italian seafood dish, look no further than these mussels marinara. They are steamed to perfection in a spicy tomato broth infused with basil, garlic and white wine. Garnish with fresh herbs and serve them with pasta or warm Italian bread for a satisfying, flavorful meal.

  • 23 pounds mussels
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 4 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1/2 sweet onion, chopped
  • 1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1 28-ounce can petite diced tomatoes
  • 1/2 cup white wine
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley

Instructions

  1. Heat a large stockpot or Dutch oven to medium. Add olive oil.
  2. Sauté the onion, garlic, crushed red pepper and basil until fragrant.
  3. Add the tomatoes and white wine. Bring to a simmer.
  4. Drop in the mussels.
  5. Cover the pot and allow the mussels to steam for 5-7 minutes, or until the mussels have fully opened.
  6. Discard any unopened mussels and garnish with fresh parsley before serving
