Banh Mi Turkey Burgers

Ingredients

  • 4 whole wheat light hamburger buns

For the burgers:

  • 1 1/4 pounds lean ground turkey meat
  • 2 green onions, sliced
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1/2 tablespoon grated fresh ginger
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup plain breadcrumbs
  • 1 tablespoons reduced-sodium soy sauce

For the coleslaw:

  • 3 cups coleslaw mix with carrots
  • 1/2 cup chopped English cucumber
  • 3 tablespoons chopped pickled jalapeños
  • 2 green onions, sliced
  • 2 tablespoons mayonnaise
  • 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
  • Salt & pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat a grill to medium-indirect heat (375˚F – 400˚F).
  2. In a medium bowl, stir together the coleslaw ingredients. Set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, mix together the burger ingredients until evenly combined. Form the mixture into 4 patties.
  4. Grill burgers for about 6 – 7 minutes per side, or until burgers have reached an internal temperature of 165˚F and juices run clear.
  5. To serve, place burger patties on buns and top with coleslaw.
