Nanaimo, British Columbia, Canada | Love in a Suitcase

This past Sunday, we spent the afternoon out and about in Marc’s hometown, Nanaimo, British Columbia. It was a beautiful day. So we stopped for lunch and a Nanaimo bar – the city’s specialty – and a walk on the city’s seawall.

We had lunch as Delicado’s, a little deli serving Southwestern food not too far from Marc’s parents’ house. We each got their “rollups”, which are basically just wraps but you can choose from mild to extra spicy. I got a mild California rollup with chicken because I wasn’t in the mood for something spicy.

After that, we walked around the corner to McLean’s Specialty Foods for their award-winning Nanaimo bar. They sell all sorts of imported and specialty foods. We had never been there before, but it was a really cool place so we are planning on going back for lunch before we leave. I also picked up some rose water for a recipe I’m working on this week.

Then, we walked the seawall. The city has a beautiful harbor, and it’s a great place to walk around on a nice day. There’s a few small restaurants, ice cream shops and some souvenir stores. And, there’s a path that takes you from one end to the other, and back.
